The chrysanthos Supernova Glaze are crystalline glazes that produce beautiful crystals in a normal firing and much larger crystals in controlled firings. They are suitable for mid-fire application on flat and vertical surfaces. Supernova Glaze are purely for decoration as the glazes tend to craze.

APPLICATION

Supernova Glazes require 3 - 4 thick coats to achieve the crystalline effect. When applying to vertical surfaces, ensure that a gap of about 3 cm is left to the bottom of the piece, as the glazes tend to run. It is a good idea to place pieces on a tile to prevent damage to the kiln shelves by glaze dripping. It is also possible to paint another glaze for example a Chrysanthos High Fire Glaze or Underglaze around the piece's base to stop the Supernova Glaze from running all the way down. This requires experimentation.

• Layer it up – three to four coats to unlock the best effect!
• Don’t skimp on the drying time between coats.
• Embrace the glorious bleed on colors that touch.
• Does not mix well with other colors in the range (they’re shy).
• Just for the eyes people – not food safe.
• Middle fire bisque or give it a miss!

PHYSICAL DATA

The Supernova Glaze range are designed for middle fire temperatures between cone 4 (1,186oC) and cone 8 (1,263oC). Larger crystals may be achieved in controlled firings, where the kiln temperature is allowed to cool in a controlled fashion.
