Here’s where things get fun: the Underglaze Pencil. Ideal for adding those charming hand-drawn designs or just writing "Made with love" on the bottom of your piece. Fires up to Cone 10, but beware— turn up the heat and colors might fade a touch.

Our UGPencils are LEAD FREE (Pb) – Don’t be fooled by other pencils on the market! Make sure they conform to ASTM-D4236. Luckily, ours do!

The Chrysanthos Underglaze Pencil range are lead-free and non-toxic and are intended for use on bisque where it is desired to create a fine line or shade. They can also be used for identification and marking test pieces.

+ Smudge-proof? Mostly. Sponge on the first coat to make sure nothing goes awry, then brush a couple of coats or dip for the finale! 
+ Good to go on bisque! 
+ Clear glaze and fire for food-safe finish. 
+ Mix and smudge and blend away. 
+ All Underglaze Pencils fire between Cone 06 (999°C) - Cone 10 (1,305°C).

APPLICATION

Decoration with the Chrysanthos Underglaze Pencils is resilient to some rubbing, so it is suitable for use by children. Drawings created may be smudged or shaded by gentle rubbing with or without water. Pencils tips may also be dipped in water to create thicker darker lines. After application, excess dust should be brushed off gently and the decoration should be coated with a clear glaze before firing to the glaze maturing temperature. If the glaze is to be brushed on, the first coat of glaze should be sponged on over the Underglaze Pencil design to prevent the design from coming off. Subsequent coats can then be brushed on. If the glaze is to be sprayed on or dipped on, it is not necessary to sponge any glaze over the Underglaze Pencil design. Underglaze Pencils may be sharpened using a pencil sharpener or a blade. A strong underglaze lead core and soft surrounding wooden casing mean that the lead will be resilient to breaking.

The Underglaze Pencils may be fired between cone 06 (999oC) and cone 10 (1,305oC).

SAFETY DATA

The Underglaze Pencils are lead-free and safe for children to use. When brushing off excess pencil dust, care should be taken to avoid inhaling the dust particles created during drawing. Once coated with a suitable food safe glaze, the pencil decoration is food-safe, provided the glaze has been fired correctly.
